The Board of Directors of the Maritime Fire Chiefs Association would like to thank you for your continued support, especially during these unprecedented times. The ongoing support that departments continue to provide throughout the Atlantic Provinces is remarkable!
The Board of Directors has decided for the second year in a row to cancel the MFCA conference. As a leadership group, the MFCA feels it is the most responsible approach to ensuring the safety of all members and the public at large. The 2019 AGM was postponed due to the current situation regarding Covid-19. As such, the Minister responsible for the Emergency Management Act issued a Direction regarding member meetings for societies and any other corporations governed by the laws of Nova Scotia. This Direction precludes in-person meetings of greater than 50 people, and enables either a virtual meeting, or a delay of a meeting up to a further 90 days after the state of emergency is lifted. With the 2021 conference being cancelled, the Board of Directors will explore options for the 2021 AGM and provide and update once a decision has been reached. We are eager to finalize the 2022 Conference details and will provide updates on our website and social media platforms.
Over the past year and a half, the Board of Directors continue to meet virtual to carry out the busines of the association. There have been two virtual training sessions organized and delivered in partnership with Dr. Richard B Gasaway. In July 2020, the MFCA delivered a Firefighter Safety: Mistakes & Best Practices. This event was free of charge for all members and was well attended. In January 2021, another training session was organized and delivered on Situational Awareness, the Foundation for Good Decision Making. This event was offered for a nominal fee and the response was outstanding! Given the positive response to these two virtual training events, the MFCA will continue to explore future training opportunities for its members.
Another event that the MFCA has been working on it the Sprinkler Summit in partnership with NFPA, CASA, and the Co-operators. Originally scheduled for Fall 2020, the Sprinkler Summit has been postponed but continues to be a priority. Stay tuned for more updates!!
Quarterly meetings continue to take place, as well as additional meeting to ensure the needs of the association and its members are met.
We cannot thank you enough for your support and engagement in the association, without you it would not be possible.
President Chief, MFCA
