First, I’d like to acknowledge the hard work done by our
Lunenburg County host committee. The meetings and sessions went well, the speakers packed
the house and didn’t disappoint. The food and entertainment reflected the reputation
for hospitality along the South Shore. Thanks
to all who made it possible for a great effort and conference.
Since the conference, the Executive has been busy dealing with
the resignation of John Robart from the Secretary-Treasurer position. John provided many years of service in this
capacity and did it well. Thanks John.
The Executive Committee members have taken on aspects of the
Secretary-Treasurer’s workload in the short term.
A committee has been appointed to review the position and make a
recommendation as to how we will carry out these duties in the future. Discussion of the recommendations will take place
at the Spring Executive Committee meeting and be brought before the membership in July.
I am pleased to report that the 2009 Conference Committee from Pictou County has worked very hard to be prepared for our 95th Conference. Following Lunenburg County’s example they have booked excellent speakers and are planning an interesting program for all who attend. Details are starting to emerge on the conference website http://www.mfca2009.ca/ At our Fall Executive meeting
we also addressed the financial situation of the association. While it is unlikely we can cure the situation
quickly, steps have been taken to reduce the drain on our investment resources. We are hopeful that a new revenue sharing
arrangement between the conference host committee and the MFCA will allow us to rectify
the situation. Other revenue sources are
being investigated, as well.
